Ignore the previous post, twas for my dad’s benefit because he was hovering over my shoulder while I attempted to finish my assignment.. or rather my section of it.
I initially intended my next post to be about the longdelayedposting of King’s Birthday or even good ol’ Penang food (yes, I’m home! Only till Thursday, though). But I just had my doctor’s appointment yesterday so I figured, why not regale you with the drama of my sick, sick life.
Appointment was with Mr. SP. Palaniappan, the consultant ENT surgeon in Penang’s Gleneagles Medical Center (GMC). I’ve known since… last December that I have GERD (aka acid reflux) and after six months of suffering at the hands of GP-prescribed medications to no avail, I finally gave in and went to see a specialist. You’re probably wondering why I went to see an ENT instead of a gastroenterologist. Mr. Palaniappan previously diagnosed my cousin and maid with GERD and also my mum’s longtime ENT consultant who performed her rhinoplasty some 2 years ago. Nope, not for cosmetic purposes as my mother is perfectly happy with her nose, but her rhinoplasty was more of a reconstructive surgery as she had an enlarged something (I cannot remember for the life of me!) or a polyps in her nose that was causing a backdrip of mucous into her throat and difficulty breathing.. I’m babbling.
Anyway, while Mr.P (his name’s too long) was confirming the GPs’ diagnoses of my GERD, he also found another problem with me. I’ve been having a runny/blocked nose, itchy throat and eyes for weeks and apparently, it’s not the common cold. I have allergic rhinitis. I’m too lazy to explain for the umpteenth time so you can just click on that link. The worst agenda of the day was my blood test… okay I’m dramatizing. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
Point is. I am now on a very expensive cocktail of medications (Aerius, Patanol, Gaviscon Advance, Nexium, Pariet and Nasonex) AND a strict diet.
Where has the quality of my life gone?!
On the bright side? If I’m rigid enough with this dietary regiment and am religiously taking my medications, I should be done in a month or two (maybe two) and I can get back to abusing my body with cheese!! Okay, maybe not abusing abusing… more.. enjoying.
So garlic, coffee, cheese, chocolate, I’m taking a two-month hiatus but I’ll be back!! Stronger than ever! I can take this as an opportunity to.. lose weight? Nah I don’t wanna be anorexic.. but maybe a bit around the thigh area because godknows I’m too short for huge thighs! Provided I don’t die before that of course…
It’s 3am and I gotta go to bed so, toodles!
Note:
FINE FINE FINE, Jack’s right, I admit. I am a bloody sick child… >_<
