Malaysia (with everything and everyone) in it, never fails to amaze me.
1. Timing
Flight delayed – as usual. Originally scheduled to depart at 9.15pm, at the check-in counter, I was told it would be delayed to 9.50pm – boarding at 9.20pm. It’s 9.25pm and we sure as hell ain’t boarding.
2. Mentality
There is an almost 10 meter waiting line at the moment in front of the gate. But you know what? The gate hasn’t even opened and no one has announced that it’s time to board, there’s n one behind the boarding counter and I’m sure the 50 or so other people decided to stand in ine for the past 15 minutes or so simply because one genius decided he was gonna be kiasu enough to stand in line to get the best seats. Typical.
3. Hygiene
When they said low-cost-carrier-terminal. They really took the low-cost part seriously. I’ve been grumbling on about this for ages but the LCCT here is more of a warehouse masquerading as an air terminal. It’s bad enough that the air conditioning is erratic. Bad enough that there are too few seats at the waiting lounge. But the flies that hover in almost every space in this terminal really takes the cake. At (the very expensive) McDonald’s, there were at least four flies hovering over my meal. Here as I type this entry, there are a few scattered around, happily buzzing around the air-conditioned terminal. For an airport, there is a scary amount of flies.
4. Stealthiness
The moment an AirAsia crew member moved in to stand behind the boarding counter, at least 6-10 people (and counting) have slipped into the line as inconspicuously as possible. Cut line lah as usual. Like that doctor guy (I gathered he was a doctor from his conversation) at the check-in counter. Yakking away on the phone and next thing you know instead of standing behind me, he’s a few inches in front of me. Lucky I’m not the type to be pushed around when it comes to manners (or lack-there-of) like this.
I’d better shut Miyako down. people seem to be getting more agitated so I presume we’re boarding soon.
Here’s to Malaysians.
Happy 50th Merdeka.

Firstly some Malaysians don’t seem to understand the concept of PRIORITY BOARDING. When the announcement was made for the Xpress ticket holders to board, I saw all sorts of aunties and uncles dashing to the counter. The same people who, to my delight, we turned away by the ground staff. That, we call ENG KAI. muahaha!!
Of course, I shan’t neglect to mention the rather necessary (in Malaysia at least) announcement warning passengers that “removing life jackets from the aircraft is a serious offence”. I mean…SERIOUSLY!! “Now everyone can fly” might not necessarily be a good thing, as we have learnt!!!
Otherwise I had a really good AirAsia experience. The planes were all new, spick and span and the leg space was actually good. Plus believe it or not my flights were all on time — my flight out of KL today even departed and arrived earlier than usual!!!! I must admit tho…LCCT is like (what you once said)…a warehouse!!
